Gold is a rare metallic element and an atomic number of 79. Its chemical symbol, Au, is short for the Latin word for gold, “Aurum”, which literally means “Glowing Daw”.
Pure gold has a bright yellow colour and is one of only two coloured metal elements, the other being copper.
