Silver is valued as a precious metal and used in currency, ornaments and jewellery, as well as  silverware  and hollow-ware(table service items such as sugar bowels, coffee pots and teapots).  Silver is a soft, white, radiant  metal.

Sterling silver is an alloy of silver containing 92.5% pure silver and 7.5%other metals, usually copper.

Britannia silver is an alternate hallmark-quality standard containing 95.8% silver, frequently used to make silver table ware and wrought plate.
