Cut Quality: The diamonds cut should show a good brilliance and sparkle. Diamond shapes are important as well your Personality type as well.
Clarity: Most diamonds contain distinct birthmarks called inclusions (internal) and blemishes (external). Diamonds without these clarity attributes are rare – and rarity translates to higher cost when buying diamonds.
The Gemological Institute of America, GIA, Clarity Grades ranges from Flawless to Included (I3).
|IF||Flawless, Internally Flawless: No internal or external imperfections. Internally Flawless: No internal imperfections. Very rare.|
|VVS1,VVS2||Very, Very Slightly Included: Very difficult to see imperfections under 10x magnification. An excellent quality diamond.|
|VS1,VS2||Very Slightly Included: Imperfections are not typically visible to the unaided eye. Less expensive than the VVS1 or VVS2 grades.|
|SI1,SI2||Slightly Included: Imperfections are visible under 10x magnification, and may be visible with the unaided eye. A good diamond value.|

Carat:Diamonds are weighed in carats with one carat weighing about the same as a paper clip, or 0.2 grams.
Blood Diamonds, also known as “Conflict Diamonds” are stones that are produced in areas controlled by rebel forces that are opposed to internationally recognised governments. Make sure the shop or designer supplying you with diamonds know about ‘Conflict diamonds’.
